Teaching Staff
Master Teacher
The Master Teacher will work alongside the Head of School and Director of Curriculum & Instruction to lead the planning for and implementation of Ingenuity Prep’s academic program. This individual will teach four days a week, with significant instructional responsibilities focused on planning and execution of literacy instruction. One day per week, he/she will have no direct instructional responsibilities and will instead be able to devote additional time to planning and coaching of the other teachers on his/her team. In most cases, this individual will loop with his/her grade-level team and founding cohort of students to subsequent grades. Master Teachers will participate in regular adult leadership training facilitated by Ingenuity Prep’s Head of School and Director of Curriculum & Instruction.
A candidate applying for this position should have at least three years of successful early elementary and/or early-childhood teaching experience. He/she should have a track record of successful literacy outcomes, deep literacy content knowledge, initial adult leadership interest and/or experience, and a commitment to serving the same cohort of students over multiple years.
All of the Master Teacher positions have now been filled for the 2013-14 school year.
Lead Teacher
The Lead Teacher will work alongside the master, associate, and resident teachers at his/her grade-level in supporting students, engaging families, and planning for and implementing curriculum and instruction. In most cases, this individual will loop with his/her grade-level team and founding cohort of students to subsequent grades. In kindergarten, lead teachers will serve as content-specialists – allowing them opportunity to become deep subject-matter experts.
A candidate applying for this position should have at least two years of successful early elementary and/or early-childhood teaching experience. He/she should have a track record of successful student achievement outcomes, deep content knowledge, a commitment to serving the same cohort of students over multiple years and strong levels of social, emotional, and cultural competency.
Associate Teacher
The Associate Teacher will work alongside the master, lead, and resident teachers at his/her grade-level in supporting students, engaging families, and planning for and implementing curriculum and instruction. In most cases, this individual will loop with his/her grade-level team and founding cohort of students to subsequent grades. He/she will work side by side with and receive mentoring and support from the Master Teacher.
A candidate applying for this position can be new to the profession but should have some initial teacher training and student-teaching experience. This position may be ideal for candidates graduating from schools of education or entering alternative teacher certification programs (DC Teaching Fellows, Teach for America, etc.). Candidates for this position should demonstrate strong levels of social, emotional, and cultural competency.
Resident Teacher
The Resident Teacher will work alongside the master, lead, and associate teachers at his/her grade-level in supporting students, engaging families, and planning for and implementing curriculum and instruction. He/she will work side by side with and receive mentoring and support from the Master Teacher.
This Resident Teacher position is open to candidates who are college graduates but have had no prior formal training or experience as a teacher. Candidates for this position should have a strong level of social, emotional, and cultural competency and demonstrate a commitment to serving the same cohort of students over multiple years. Ingenuity Prep will partner with the Urban Teacher Center for these positions.
