It’s with deep sadness that we share the tragic news that Nyiah Courtney, rising Ingenuity Prep 1st grader, was killed in a shooting incident over the weekend.
Nyiah will be remembered by those close to her as being so full of energy, loving to dance and sing, and so helpful to her teachers and peers. Through the impact of infectious joy on her classmates and our staff, Nyiah will certainly never be forgotten at Ingenuity Prep. She will be so deeply missed by all of the Ingenuity Prep community who joins her family (including her sister, Nakiyah, a rising IP 4th grader), friends, and loved ones in mourning her loss.
Our school community is in communication with the Courtney family and we’ve begun planning for honoring Nyiah’s life and supporting the Courtney family following the shocking and heartbreaking loss of Nyiah. As we have additional details about vigils and/or celebration of life services, we will share them with our community.
This has been a painful, loss-filled year for our school community. In partnership with the Department of Behavioral Health, we’ll be holding grief counseling sessions on Monday (7/19) at 3:30 p.m. and on Tuesday (7/20) at 11 a.m. via Zoom. We encourage our students and families to make use of those resources as a place to process grief.
Please join us in keeping Nakiyah and the whole Courtney family in your thoughts and prayers as they mourn the loss of Nyiah. ...
